Video: Enabling Dreams
Enabling Dreams is a stimulating and an inspirational outlook on the lives of students with disabilities and their much reliance on assistive technology. I learned a lot of new information about this assistive and adaptive technology. Also, it gave me an outlook on how to make changes in my lesson plans to accommodate these learners with this technology.
Assistive technology isn’t implemented in that much schools today because they either aren’t aware of the various types of technology and money issues. It’s also not included in teacher’s lesson planning process. In the very near future, I would accommodate my students with disabilities by modifying my lessons to allow them to use the necessary type of assistive technology they need. Assistive technology gives the opportunity for independence, productivity, and quality of life. This video definitely gave me more information about assistive technology. Last semester, I had the opportunity to go GSAT (Guam System for Assistive Technology). I definitely will take advantage of all their information and equipment they have available.
Before I went to GSAT and watched the video, I was never aware of how much students with disabilities are heavily relied on assistive technology. I wasn’t aware of the various types of assistive technology that are available for the students. I was also unaware of how advanced assistive technology has become. I have a whole new outlook and plan on taking advantage of this type of technology for my students.
